Jessica Weber Jessica Weber

Danelo,  24, originally comes from Spain. He has lived in Berlin, Friedrichshain, since March and makes a living as a street performer. Daniels favorite thing about Berlin is the variety, particularly with regards to style and attitude. He is also fascinated by the history of the city, and appreciates how many old buildings have been preserved and are now put to contemporary use.

Market on Kollwitzplatz, Berlin

9 Mar
Although this market isn't officially the Bio(Organic)Market
(the official Bio market takes place on Thursdays
on Kollwitzplatz), you will find that a lot of
what's on sale is indeed bio. The area is, dare I say it,
a little bit of a yuppy hotspot, however it's an
interesting market, busy but with more breathing space
than most. You will find delicious foods, everything from
spinach knödel (dumplings) to currywurst,
falafel to grilled whole fish. The rest of the market is
comprised of stalls selling clothing, soaps, flowers, meat,
fish,Greek deli-foods, oils,bio fruit & veg, pulses and
even bio homemade tofu. The area itself is home to numerous
lovely cafes (see images of Meierei).
So if you are feeling a little bit up market
(perhaps you are a little bit up market)and you love
anything with the word bio in front of it,
or you just fancy a bite to eat, this market is
definitely for you.
Every Saturday between 9am-4pm

Important Dates for the Mauerpark Petition

14 Apr

On the 19th of April the BVV Meeting will be held and they will decide if the Mauerpark should be widened by 3 hectares, meaning 7 hectares will be lost as  Free Space!! The North of the park will be built on and the South will be privatized for businesses.

We need to stop this madness!! The Mauerpark Stiftung has therefore called for a meeting before to discuss how we can help. The meeting will take place at
Café Niesen  Schwedter/ at the corner of Korsörer Straße, Monday 16. April 2012  at 8pm

Also don’t forget the most important date the 19th of April. This is the decision day the BVV Meeting, we hope you can make it down to show your support. The more people turn up the more likely it is, we will finally get through to them and they can see that the Mauerpark should stay as it is a Worldpark for everyone and NOT be built on!

The meeting will take place at BVV Saal, Karl-Marx-Allee 31, 10178 Berlin

Many thanks for all of you support so far

and keep on signing the online  petition here

Mauerpark for Everyone

29 Mar

We are back, apologies it has been a while but this has been due to work commitments. Anyway this subject is close to our hearts and its about our beloved Mauerpark. One of the star attractions in Berlin especially on a sunday, when thousand of Berliners and tourists meet to enjoy the Flea-market and the chilled out atmosphere. It is a place for everyone. But even during the week Mauerpark has lots to offer, it has a farm, a climbing wall, a playground, a green-garden, and lots of space to enjoy playing games and lazing around.  You would think how can there be a problem with that, well once again greed and the want to build anywhere there is a bit of space, means that now Mauerpark is under threat. Yes the plan is to turn Mauerpark into a row of flats.

So named because the Berlin wall used to run through it, and divide the city, Mauerpark has since become a symbolic space to  reintegrate the people of Berlin, it is part of history and now  is a place where people from all walks of life meet. Mauerpark is a place for people to come and relax, for children to play and for tourists to enjoy a place like no other in the world.

The want to build and the greed to make money has turned most major cities in Europe into generic characterless places no different from one another. Not to mention the thousands of flats that lie empty in Berlin. Flats that are perfectly capable of being restored. Why build on green when empty flats already exist? It seems absurd like so many things in this modern world. To keep the world we live in the way it is, to say no to the ever growing commercial machine, we need to stand up and fight for it! There are two ways you can help and keep Mauerpark the way it is – a park for EVERYONE! Firstly you can protest, the first protest date is tomorrow the 30th of March 2012. Between 5.30 pm -9pm we can gather at BVV-Saal im Rathaus Mitte, Karl-Marx-Allee 31, 10178 Berlin and discuss the future of Mauerpark. The more people turn up the more chance we have to argue our point and the need to keep Mauerpark a place for everyone! If you can’t make it then you also have the chance to donate to the cause at

http://www.welt-buerger-park.de

or sign the Petition, see below

Don’t put this one off, it is vitally important to keep such a place, if we let this happen imagine the kind of world we will live in, in years to come. It will be a very grey city with no more green and no places to meet, and where will we go then?!

Yum Yum- Dim Sum

10 Jan

After seeing a link on ‘Mitteschoen’ we took ourselves to YUMCHAHEROES for some Dim Sum. It is  home to the finest homemade Chinese Dumplings. Truly delicious, we tucked into some crispy  Lamb dumplings, Baozi ( minced pork and ginger, served with pak choi) and some steamed beef dumplings and 2 Tsintao Beer. The bill came to 22.50 Euro, which was reasonable enough for a nice, quick dinner for two in a lovely atmosphere. Apart from Chinese  dumplings  fried or steamed they also serve dumpling soups, Yumcha Rolls (homemade rolls made of dough and fresh fillings) and bigger plates, such as Chicken meatballs, steamed silk tofu and Noug-me-ji (sticky rice in a lotus leaf with shrimp, chinese sausage, shitake and coriander.  If you are a bit hungrier, their big plates include Giant black tiger prawns, Jacobs’ chicken, pink duck and a tofu dish. View full menu here : http://yumchaheroes.com/

If you don’t fancy anything alcoholic you can also go for a healthy but tasty option of Yumcha Tea Flowers – finest hand tied Chinese tea flowers which open up in your glass to reveal a beautiful flower –Awww

..Still not convinced? Have a look at this video I found on the Yumchaheroes website.
